Minimum is set to 1 and cannot be zeroed, thank you.

Well... did you read the text on the card ?
"1 to 8" is not "0 to 8" nor "at most 8" or whatever expression that means "you may pay 0"
so you must pay at least 1.

But there is also written that is effect, not cost.
Does it mean I cannot also buy think cap if I don't have two seperate pairs of ingredients?

Thinking Cap : "Test up to two..."

0 is up to two

Agree but it does make sense here, saying pay 0 gold to 8 gold to gain that many point would sound weird.
I would focus rather on differencing cost and effect, I'm not obligated to fitfull effect once I've already bought artifact.

yes you must apply effect

no doubt about this

It doesn't go "You must pay 1..." but ok, I glad I've faced it in winning game :)

Just one question Frederic, what if I want to buy witch's trunk and there are less than 7 ingrediens available?
Taking same analogy I couldn't buy it?

Re: altar of gold

"pay 1 to 8" is more likely "you must" than "you may"
this is not the point : you must apply the effect

Re: altar of gold

there will never be less than 7 ingredients if players do not play like %€£¥₩

Re: altar of gold

It is only your intepretation, same as it would be 'you must draw 7 ingredients' :)
And you don't answer my question 8)

metron a écrit :It is only your intepretation, same as it would be 'you must draw 7 ingredients' :)

let's do the math:
there're 40 ingredients
let's same you play the apprentice variant and draw 3 cards
4 player for 3 ingredients are 12 ingredients
there're sill 28 ingredients
the first round everyone use 1 herbalist (total 4 cards)

[/b]24 ingredients remains
now say that everyone go for the most ingredients in place order and keep in the hand the ingredients without spend it (total of 5 ingredients for round)
19 ingredients remain
round 2: 14 ingredients remain
round 3: 9 ingredients remain
round 4: 5 ingredients remain
round 5: 0 ingredients remain

but nobody play like that

Altar of gold: cost 1 gold to buy it. refer BGG search https://boardgamegeek.com/spsearch.php? ... ar+of+gold
witch's trunk: no one encounter the case you say with 0 ingredients available. but you draw how much you can. same for the place order ingredients number

if have doubt can ask to CGE directly using this form http://czechgames.com/en/contact/

oh no, what have you done, you've opened pandora box ;p

your math is correct however if something is unlikely it doesn't mean it can't happen and shouldn't be consider :)
I was just more curious what algorithm do in case of such situation and I assume that it gives less then 7 cards
